Legacy of Conflict: The Smith & Wesson Revolver of Bill Dunaway"

This painting is a striking meditation on history, legacy, and the passage of time. Centered around an authentic Smith & Wesson revolver from the era of the American Civil War, the composition captures a haunting narrative through carefully curated period artifacts. Resting upon a stone ledge, the revolver lies alongside weathered books, bound documents, and a solemn death certificate—each item a piece of a larger, deeply personal story.

The revolver itself is a chilling focal point, with notches carved into its handle—silent witnesses to the lives it claimed. A single bullet stands upright, a quiet yet potent symbol of mortality and the fine line between life and death.

The muted, atmospheric lighting imbues the scene with an almost sacred quality, inviting the viewer to reflect on the human cost of war, the stories preserved in relics, and the weight of inherited memory. This work transcends the still-life genre, becoming a timeless narrative of survival, morality, and the enduring marks left by history.
