Impressionism

Impressionism is an art movement that originated in France during the late 19th century. It is characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brushstrokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities, ordinary subject matter, unusual visual angles, and inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience. The movement was championed by a group of talented painters, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and Camille Pissarro, among others. Impressionist paintings often convey a sense of movement—whether it’s rustling leaves, rippling water, or bustling crowds.

Contemporary Impressionism refers to artworks created by modern artists that share aesthetic characteristics with the French Impressionists. Contemporary Impressionist artworks, whether showing cityscapes or nature, are characterized by loose and expressive brushwork that highlights the play of light.
